Business economics

The processes taking place in the global economic system that influence the transformation of the labour market
and the decline in the number of jobs in the traditional labour market, encourage generating business ideas and
leaving the status of an employee in order to become an employer. Delegating decision making to the employees
and operative solutions to extraordinary situations also require entrepreneurial skills. Considering the changes in
the organisation of economic activity mentioned above, it can be stated that the importance of business economics
as a practical subject has particularly increased today.
The goal of this educational measure is to provide the students with knowledge about the economic principles of
business activities, develop practical skills for solving various business situations. In this educational publication
the students will be introduced to the main issues of business economics – the principles of business economics
and types of organisations, business resources, organising production, the basics of business environment analysis,
business risk, business analysis, as well as business assessment methods. At the end of each chapter there will
be questions to check one’s knowledge, as well as additional recommended literature. The performance of practical
tasks requires complex knowledge, thus these tasks, in the form of a case analysis, are provided after studying
the material of several chapters. Using this educational publication, students will acquire the knowledge of the
basics of economics according to a multi-step program: having studied the theory of the topic, they will continue
to the questions to examine their knowledge and perform tasks of case analyses, which require application of
theoretical knowledge in practice.
